ABSTRACT

This talk addresses an old and fundamental problem, i.e., how a communication receiver processes its received signal for information detection. I will introduce our research result on redesigning the communication receiver. Compared to the well-known receiver design with coherent detection, our newly designed receiver processes the received signal using joint coherent and non-coherent detection, which gives notable improvement in terms of both data rate and symbol error detection performance. This somewhat surprising result may lead to many new research opportunities by making use of the new receiver design in the current and future communication systems.

BIOGRAPHY

Xiangyun (Sean) Zhou received B. Eng. and Ph.D. degree from the Australian National University (ANU). Currently he is an Associate Professor at Australian National University. His research interests are in the areas of communication theory and wireless networks. Sean have served on the editorial board of IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Wireless Communications Letters and IEEE Communications Letters. He has also served as co-chair and organizer of various symposiums and workshops at premier IEEE conferences. He was named the Asia-Pacific Best Young Researcher in 2017 by IEEE Communications Society.
