Abstract:

The Byzantine distributed quickest change detection (BDQCD) is studied, where a fusion center monitors the occurrence of an abrupt event through a bunch of IoT sensors that may be compromised. We first consider the binary hypothesis case where there is only one post-change hypothesis and prove a novel converse to the asymptotic detection delay in the large mean time to a false alarm regime. This converse is tight and thus the optimal asymptotic performance of binary BDQCD is characterized. To be more specific, the solution of a corresponding leader-follower Stackelberg game is found.  To accommodate multiple post change hypotheses, we then formulate the multi-hypothesis BDQCD problem and again investigate the optimal first-order performance. Two families of stopping rules, namely the simultaneous d-th alarm and the multi-shot d-th alarm, are then proposed. The optimality of proposed rules under different link bandwidth constraints is also characterized.

 

Shih-Chun Lin received the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, in 2000 and 2007, respectively. He was a Visiting Student with The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, USA, and a Postdoctoral Researcher at National Tsing Hua University, HsinChu, Taiwan. He joined the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei, Taiwan, in fall 2012 and is currently an Associate Professor. His research interests include information theory, communications, and cyber-physical security. He serves as the TPC Co-Chair of IEEE ICC Workshop on B5G-URLLC 2019, Publication Chair of the IEEE Globecom 2020, and TPC Members of the IEEE ICC 2018-2020. Dr. Lin received the Best Paper Award for Young Authors from the IEEE IT/COM Society Taipei/Tainan Chapter in 2015, and twice the Project for Excellent Junior Research Investigators from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan, in 2015 and 2018. He is a Senior member of IEEE.
