Federated Learning : The Era of Edge AI
Abstract:
The B5G/6G mobile telecommunication systems expect to realize emerging Internet of Things (IoT) applications with the help of edge AI by the marriage of edge/fog computing and artificial intelligence (AI). Recently, Google has advocated Federated Learning (FL), a new kind of privacy-preserving edge learning framework, to boost edge AI. In this talk, we will give a brief intro to FL technology and show an exemplary AIoT service platform for realizing mobile video analysis. Then, we will discuss two existing privacy and security threats in the FL system triggered by malicious end devices and the abnormal aggregator. Finally, we will demonstrate some future FL research directions.
Bio:
Te-Chuan Chiu received his B.S. degree in Computer Science from National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, in 2010, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and Information Engineering from National Taiwan University, Taiwan, in 2012 and 2018. He has been a research scholar of the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering from Arizona State University, USA, in 2016-2017. He is currently a postdoctoral research fellow in Research Center for Information Technology Innovation (CITI), Academia Sinica, since 2018. His research interests include B5G/6G communications, edge intelligence/AI, fog/edge computing, and AIoT.
Dr. Chiu received the Graduate Students Study Abroad Program from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in 2015 and the best master/Ph.D. dissertation award from the Institute of Information & Computing Machinery (IICM) in 2012 and 2018, respectively. He was elected as the Outstanding Youth of the National Taiwan University (NTU) and the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society Member of the Republic of China in 2018. Recently, he has won the 2021 Academia Sinica Postdoctoral Scholars on behalf of CITI.
