Abstract:
As of today when 3GPP is finalizing the 4G LTE-A standard, the telecommunication industry and academia around the world have begun to define and develop 5th generation systems which are envisioned to have much higher performance than the current 4G systems. In Taiwan, the government has also been gathering the local industry, academia and research institutes to define 5G research, aiming to establish Taiwan’s 5G essential IPRs and facilitate the 5G product development in the future. According to ITU-R and 3GPP planning, the 5G system standardization will begin in early 2016; therefore, the years from 2015 to 2017 is the critical time for Taiwan to do 5G research and develop our own 5G prototype systems.
In this talk, after a brief summary on the current ITU-R and 3GPP activities on 5G development, the beam-group division multiple access (BgDMA) 5G system proposed by CCU-ASUS research team will be overviewed, and some results based on ray-tracing channel models will be disclosed.
