Abstract:
In recent years the use of state-of-the-art sensors in remote sensing is producing a nearly continual stream of high-dimensional data which turns out to be a new computational challenge to process these huge volume of data. For this purpose, high performance computing (HPC) models such as clusters, distributed networks and customized hardware devices provide important architectural developments to accelerate the computations related with information extraction in remote sensing missions. In this talk we will review recent advances in HPC applied to remote sensing problems. Some of our HPC research examples are demonstrated. In particular the HPC-based paradigms included in this talk comprise multiprocessor systems, heterogeneous computer networks, cloud computing environments and hardware devices such as field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and graphics processing units (GPUs).
