Notes for Graduate Students Regulations
★★ Withdrawal
In accordance with Article 62 of National Tsing Hua University Academic Regulations: Graduate students shall withdraw from study if they fail in the scoring of all courses taken in all terms except the thesis/dissertation, and resolved by the meeting of the department, institute, or degree program for withdrawal from study.
It is important to note that if graduate students only select one course and failed in the only one course, the student will possibly be withdrew from the graduate program.
★★Important Regulations on Course selection and Credit Points of M.S. Program
In accordance with Article 3 of National Tsing Hua University Institute of Communications Engineering Regulations for the Master’s Degree Program:
Article 3: Course Requirements
- The required courses of M.S. Program
- Academic Research Ethics Education Course (online course, 0 credit): All M.S. students must complete this course during the first year of M.S. program and pass the exams.
- Seminar (COM 5010/5020):2 semesters are required, 1 credit for each semester.
- Thesis (COM 6010/6020)
- Students should complete at least 24 credits of courses from the Communication Engineering course category.
Note:
- M.S. students may either take EECS courses or MATH courses (Advanced Calculus I/II, Algebra I/II) as elective courses. No more than 2 courses (6 credits) could be applied for credit exemption after his/her advisor’s approval. Students should submit the “Application Form for electing nonprofessional courses of undergraduate and graduate programs” with course syllabus and signature of advisor to the Communication Engineering Institute office for the Director’s approval.
- Non-technical courses, such as CS 591200 English for Science and Technology, EE 601000 Introduction to Academic Writing, EECS6210 High-Tech Patents’ Grant and Defense, do not belong to the Communication Engineering course category. Those students who elect those courses can not count them as the required credits for graduation. Exception is given only when they submit the “Application Form for electing nonprofessional courses of undergraduate and graduate programs” with course syllabus and signature of advisor to the Communication Engineering Institute office for the Director’s approval.
★★Important Regulations on Course selection and Credit Points of Ph.D. Program
In accordance with Article 3 of National Tsing Hua University Institute of Communications Engineering Regulations for the Ph.D. Degree Program:
Article 3: Course Requirements
- The required courses of Ph.D. Program
- Academic Research Ethics Education Course (online course, 0 credit): All Ph.D. students must complete this course during the first year of Ph.D. program and pass the exams.
- Seminar (COM 5010/5020):4 semesters are required, 1 credit for each semester.
- Thesis (COM 7010/7020)
- Students who were admitted through the entrance examination must complete at least 18 credits of courses from the Communication Engineering course category.
- Students who were admitted directly from the undergraduate program or were transferred from the Master’s degree program must complete 30 credits of courses from the Communication Engineering course category.
Note:
- Ph.D. students should not elect undergraduate courses as required courses for graduation.
★★ Online Academic Research Ethics Education Course
Students that are enrolled in the graduate and doctorate programs starting from (including) the 2015 Fall semester must complete National Tsing Hua University Academic Research Ethics Education Course before the end of the first year of his/her enrollment. Please refer to the following website to take this online course: http://ethics.nctu.edu.tw. This course is a 0 credit, mandatory course. Each student that has taken this course must obtain at least a passing grade for the course’s test. The students that have not completed this course are not allowed to apply for their Oral Defense. New students who are enrolled in fall semesters or spring semesters should start to login the system to complete the course after October or March of their enrolled year separately.
