Abstract:
Research interest in the multimedia content analysis has substantially increased in recent decades, because of the rapid growth of advanced machine learning techniques and the demand for digital broadcasting applications. The massive commercial appeal of intelligent vision analysis has become a dominant focus in the field of entertainment. Instead of domain-specific performance, deep learning research tends to explore fairly broad topics. Therefore, deep learning provides researchers with an opportunity to quickly attain deeper and hidden concepts of multimedia data. Accordingly, content analysis of multimedia data has garnered attention from various studies in the last decade. In this talk, I am going to introduce the recent research works of mine in the field of multimedia content analysis, including sports video content, pattern analysis, and human-computer interaction.

Bio:
Huang-Chia Shih received the B.S. degree, with the highest honors, in electronic engineering from the National Taipei University of Technology, Taipei, Taiwan in 2000, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering (EE) from the National Tsing Hua University in 2002 and 2008, respectively. He joined the faculty at the Yuan Ze University (YZU) in 2010, where he is currently an Associate Professor in the EE Department. He served as a Visiting Scholar and Visiting Professor in the Department of EE, University of Washington, from 2006 to 2007, and in 2013, respectively, and a Visiting Professor in the John von Neumann Faculty of Informatics, Obuda University, Hungary, in 2011. He has authored or co-authored more than 50 papers in international journals and conferences. His research interests include content-based multimedia processing, pattern recognition, and human-computer interaction (HCI). Dr. Shih was a recipient of the Youth Medal from China Youth Corps in March 2017, an Outstanding Youth Electrical Engineer Award from the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering in December 2015, the YZU Young Scholar Research Award from YZU in March 2015, the Kwoh-Ting Li Young Researcher Award from the ACM Taiwan Chapter in April 2014, the Pan Wen Yuan Exploration Research Award from the Pan Wen Foundation in May 2013, and was awarded the best paper in ISCE2013 and student paper (advisor) in GCCE2015 from the IEEE Consumer Electronics Society.
