Abstract: 

A bi-directional fiber-FSO-5G MMW/5G NR sub-THz convergence with intensity-modulated downlink 40-Gbit/s/100-GHz 5G NR sub-THz signals, and phase-modulated uplink 10-Gbit/s/28-GHz and 10-Gbit/s/24-GHz 5G MMW signals is successfully constructed, by adopting a parallel/orthogonally polarized dual-carrier mechanism, phase modulators, and remote injection locking DFB LDs for demonstration. It is a pioneering work to realize a bi-directional fiber-FSO-5G MMW/5G NR sub-THz convergence for providing high downlink/uplink traffic capacity with qualified transmission performance. Such constructed bi-directional fiber-FSO-5G MMW/5G NR sub-THz convergence speeds up a feasible solution that can afford high traffic capacity with qualified transmission performance, and develops the state achieved by the incorporation of fiber-FSO backbone with 5G wireless extension.

Bio:

Prof. Hai-Han Lu joined the Department of Electro-Optical Engineering at National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT) as an Associate Professor in 2003. He was promoted to Professor and Life Distinguished Professor in 2003 and 2017, respectively. His research interests include FSO communications, fiber-FSO convergence, fiber-5G wireless convergence, and fiber-FSO-5G wireless convergence. He has authored or co-authored more than 200 papers in SCI-cited international journals and more than 150 papers in international conferences.

Prof. Lu is currently a Fellow of SPIE, a Fellow of IET, a Senior Member of IEEE, and a Senior Member of OSA. He was awarded with the Sun Yat-Sen Academic Award (2017), Outstanding Electrical Engineering Professor Award of the Chinese Institute of Engineering (2015), and Outstanding Engineering Professor Award of the Chinese Engineer Association (2013) for his significant contributions to FSO communications, fiber-FSO convergence, fiber- 5G wireless convergence, and fiber-FSO-5G wireless convergence.
