Abstract:
In this talk, we will first give a brief introduction to the emerging field molecular communication. Then, we will introduce the problem of characterizing the First Arrival Position (FAP) channel in diffusive molecular communication (DMC). Our first contribution of this work is to derive the FAP density function, i.e. the impulse response of FAP channel, for DMC systems equipped with absorbing receivers in arbitrary spatial-dimensions. Our FAP density formula recovers the existing formulas for 2D and 3D cases in MC literature as special cases. Furthermore, we also show that the FAP density reduces to a multi-dimensional Cauchy distribution in low velocity limit. Our second contribution of this work is to provide an initiative characterization of the channel capacity for zero-drift FAP channels in 2D and 3D cases. The main difficulty of depicting the capacity of these FAP channels comes from the fact that FAP density falls into the category of heavy-tailed distributions. As a result, the commonly used techniques in wireless communications are no longer applicable, since the second moment does not exist for Cauchy-like distributions. We provide a capacity formula for zero-drift FAP channel under a modified logarithmic constraint in both 2D and 3D cases. The resulting capacity formula turns out to have a form similar to the Gaussian channel case. It is worth mentioning that the capacity value of 3D FAP channel is twice as large as 2D FAP channel. This is an evidence that FAP channels get larger capacity as the spatial imension grows.
Biography:
Yen-Chi Lee received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, the M.S. degree in Department of Mathematics, and the Ph.D. degree in Graduate Institute of Communication Engineering (GICE), all from National Taiwan University. Since 2021, he has affiliated with Hon Hai (Foxconn) Research Institute (HHRI), Taiwan, as an ssistant Research Fellow. His research interests include classical and quantum information theory, molecular communication and mathematical physics.
