Abstract:
In this talk, I will first share my views on the current research trends in 6G wireless systems. Then, I will discuss some of my own research. First, I will introduce our work on power-saving protocol design (e.g., DRX) and thermal performance enhancements for future wireless devices. Second, I will describe our research and standardization efforts in smart edge computing management. Finally, I will discuss the challenges and opportunities of integrating Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) and Terrestrial Networks (TN) in the 6G era.
Autobiography:
Hung-Yu Wei is a Professor in Department of Electrical Engineering and Graduate Institute of Communications Engineering, National Taiwan University. He received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University, the M.S. and the Ph.D. degree from Columbia University. He joined Department of Electrical Engineering at the National Taiwan University in 2005. Currently, he is the Director of NTU GICE and Chairman of NTU EECS IoT Research Center. He served as Associate Department Chair and Interim Department Chair during 2019~2022. His research interests include wireless networks, IoT, and fog/edge computing. He has been actively participating in NGMN, 3GPP and IEEE standardization activities. He is the Chair of IEEE 1935 working group for edge/fog management and orchestration standard.
He has been recognized by several teaching and research awards. He received NTU Excellent Teaching Award (台大教學優良獎) in 2008, 2018, and 2024. He also received "Recruiting Outstanding Young Scholar Award" from the Foundation for the Advancement of Outstanding Scholarship (傑出人才發展基金會"積極爭取國外優秀青年學者獎助") in 2006, K. T. Li Young Researcher Award (李國鼎青年研究獎) from ACM Taipei/Taiwan Chapter, Excellent Young Engineer Award from the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering (中國電機工程學會優秀青年電機工程師獎) in 2014, Wu Ta You Memorial Award from MOST(吳大猷先生紀念獎) in 2015, and Outstanding Research Award from MOST(傑出研究獎) in 2020.
