  Research Skills I Learnt

 

Abstract: 

   Research is a repeat search process to know unknown. While research taste may only be apprehended by inspiration, research skills could be conveyed by expression. In this talk, I will share some research skills I learnt from several role models in my research career. The covered aspects include picking a research area, identifying a research problem, solving the problem, writing a paper, submitting to a venue, and giving a presentation. This talk might be helpful to graduate students in their early stage during the transition from absorbing knowledge to creating knowledge.

 

Autobiography: 

    Dr. Pi-Cheng Hsiu is a Research Fellow at the Research Center for Information Technology Innovation (CITI), Academia Sinica, where he leads the Embedded and Mobile Computing Laboratory, and is also a Jointly Appointed Professor at National Taiwan University, Taiwan. Upon receipt of his Ph.D. degree in computer science and information engineering from National Taiwan University, he joined CITI as an Assistant Research Fellow in 2009, was promoted to Associate Research Fellow in 2013 and to Research Fellow in 2018, and served as Deputy Director from 2017 to 2024. He was a Visiting Scholar with UIUC in 2007 and with Pitt in 2019 and 2024. Dr. Hsiu is honored with the title of Academia Sinica Scholar for the term spanning from 2024 to 2028.
